It's official. Quinn Ewers declared for the 2025 NFL Draft on Wednesday, Jan. 15, bringing his time with the Texas Longhorns to a close. Now, it's the Arch Manning era in Austin.
Ewers led the Horns to two College Football Playoff appearances and lost just give games while he was Texas' starting quarterback. Now, Ewers believes its time for him to play at the next level, and hopefully find the same kind of success.
Despite taking Texas to its only CFP appearances in school history, so far, many experts were calling for Ewers to stay at the collegiate level but transfer to another program to get another year of experience under his belt – similar to what former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck did by transferring to Miami this offseason.
However, ahead of the Horns' semifinal matchup against the Ohio State Buckeyes, ESPN shared a segment that Pete Thamel did with Ewers in which the Texas QB was adamant that he was ready for the NFL.
Quinn Ewers college stats
- 737 completions (64.9 percent)
- 9,128 passing yards
- 68 passing touchdowns
- 24 interceptions
- 140 carries
- -49 rushing yards
- 8 rushing touchdowns
Ewers has proven that he is willing to play injuries for the betterment of his team and its offensive drives. Despite the pocket consistently collapsing around him, Ewers was able to find the end zone eight times on the ground, despite having almost 50 lost yards due to sacks.
His pocket presence became a point of concern as the 2024 season progressed. Once Ewers returned to the field from his oblique injury and had to play through a beat-up ankle, it seemed as though his awareness in the pocket and decision-making abilities had taken a turn for the worse.
No matter what, Ewers left his mark on the Texas football program. Back-to-back finishes in the College Football Playoff semifinals are nothing to scoff at. From all of Longhorn nation, go be great, Quinn.
