Will Quinn Ewers follow suit and join Carson Beck in the transfer portal?

After a disappointing finish to the Georgia Bulldogs' season, despite beating the Longhorns twice in the same year, quarterback Carson Beck had a few options for his future: declare for the 2025 NFL Draft, stay at Georgia and possibly become a backup, or enter the transfer portal.

On Thursday, Jan. 9, On3's Pete Nakos reported that Beck had opted to enter the portal instead of heading to the next level or remaining with the Bulldogs.

Beck, who was Georgia's starting quarterback for two seasons, struggled to find consistency in his game over the last two years especially during the 2024 season, throwing 12 interceptions.

Despite the Texas Longhorns remaining in the College Football Playoffs, many experts are saying that Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is in a similar position. With such a quarterback-rich class, Ewers has lost a lot of draft stock as he has also struggled to find consistency throughout the season.

His injury-heavy season has led to concerns about his physical health and the amount of time missed led to concerns about Ewers' decision making abilities as the season progressed.

Many are calling for Ewers to enter the transfer portal as Texas' current backup quarterback Arch Manning is looking more and more like the Horns' QB1 for the upcoming season.

Currently, the Miami Hurricanes have already appeared as frontrunners to land Beck as their next starting quarterback – the Canes lost star quarterback Cam Ward to the NFL Draft after their season came to an end.

However, there are dozens of programs that desperately need a veteran quarterback to lead their team back to a winning season.

Worst FBS (power conference) passing offenses in 2024:

  • Michigan
  • Iowa
  • Oklahoma
  • Vanderbilt
  • Florida State
  • Purdue
  • Kentucky
  • Notre Dame
  • Virginia Tech
  • Stanford

Ewers still has, at least, one more game remaining with the Horns as he prepares to take on his former team, the Ohio State Buckeyes, in the Cotton Bowl. However, with his future up in the air, only time will tell if Ewers enters the portal to join one of the aforementioned teams or if he tests his fate by declaring for the NFL Draft.
