When you read the headline of this article, did you kind of feel like you were living the plot of Groundhog Day, the movie where Bill Murray wakes up and relives the same day over and over again?

Well, that might be because, for yet another time, Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire took any opportunity that presented itself to take a jab at the Texas Longhorns and head coach Steve Sarkisian.

This time around, he discussed the fact that he wants to play the Horns at the Big 12 Media Days, something Texas hasn't been a part of for nearly three years now, after leaving the conference for the SEC.

"We're ready to go right now. We'll play [Texas] tomorrow. We don't need any film study," McGuire said. "They got a great football team, one of the best teams in the country."

Joey McGuire thinks Tech doesn't need to prepare to play Longhorns

McGuire tossed around the idea that Texas Tech Red Raiders could take the field right now against Texas, with more than six weeks until the actual season kicks off, without any preparation or "film study" of any kind.

Of course, he said all of that despite the fact that the Red Raiders and Longhorns are three years removed from the last time they played, when Texas walked away with a resounding 57-7 victory over Texas Tech. Not to mention the fact that the Horns hold a resounding 54-18 overall record against their Lubbock-based "rivals."

At the Big 12 Media Days, McGuire went on to talk about the fact that the in-state teams don't play each other anymore, even though the Red Raiders still share a conference with Baylor and TCU, and the Horns play the Texas A&M Aggies each year. Houston is also in the Big 12 too now.

Simply put, his point went from challenging the Longhorns once again to a rambling rant about in-state recruits leaving Texas because not enough teams in the Lone Star State play against each other every year. Are you keeping up?

Meanwhile, Sarkisian and the Horns have remained virtually silent on the whole "Texas Tech drama," not giving the Red Raiders or their head coach the time of day.

A saga that has now stretched over three months, the Texas Tech Red Raiders took it personally when Sarkisian said there was a team in the state of Texas that the Horns could beat with their second or third string players.

Since then, the Horns have undeniably lived rent-free in McGuire's mind, repeatedly being the topic of his conversations and interviews, even coming up unprompted at times.

At this point, the conversation is almost entirely moot, with the first games of the year just over a month away and both teams already having a fully booked schedule. However, McGuire continues to bring it up, sounding more and more like a broken record.
