Kyla Oldacre entering high-stakes battle for Dallas Wings roster spot

More than one Texas Longhorn got a pro contract recently, as Kyla Oldacre signed with the Dallas Wings a couple of days after the WNBA Draft concluded.

I was happy to hear that Kyla Oldacre signed a training camp contract with the Dallas Wings. However, she has a tough hill to climb to make the official roster this season, as her contract leaves open the possibility that she won't make it.

Here's more about the uphill battle that Oldacre has to climb to make the team:

The WNBA has two main types of contracts that players can sign. The one that Oldacre signed is basically a camp tryout deal. What that means is that she'll be able to practice with the Dallas Wings as she attempts to make the regular-season roster on cutdown day. If the Dallas Wings decide that she isn't the player that they are looking for this season, she can be cut at any time during training camp. I know that might not sound fair, but that's how the WNBA handles undrafted or regular free agents that a team wants to see play.

I know Oldacre is up for the challenge after her short career with Texas women's basketball. She was a pivotal player inside the paint who consistently secured rebounds. She had a couple of games during her time in Austin where she looked like an everyday WNBA player. There's a good chance that it might take Oldacre a couple of times to crack a WNBA roster after going undrafted.

If she were to make the Dallas Wings roster, she would be playing with the likes of Paige Bueckers, Azzi Fudd, Maddy Siegrist and other players. She would fit right into the lineup, but so many players have been signed, such as Odyssey Sims, that there's a good chance Oldacre misses out on making the roster. If she doesn't make the Dallas Wings roster, there are plenty of other teams in the league that will sign her. Maybe she ends up playing with Rori Harmon and the Washington Mystics?
