The Texas Longhorns have a certifiable star in their recruiting class of 2027, and it is record-setting running back Landen Williams-Callis.
However, it took nearly eight months after the four-star running back set the Houston-area single-season touchdown record and a month since committing to the Horns for Williams-Callis to realize that he had even become a record setter.
"Blessed to hold the single-season Houston touchdown record, I didn’t even know," Williams-Callis wrote on X, finally acknowledging his massive accomplishment from the previous season.
In 2025, Williams-Callis earned a whopping 61 total touchdowns (59 rushing, one receiving, one passing), demolishing the previous record (57) set by Kenneth Hall in 1953.
Simply put, Williams-Callis is "that guy" when it comes to finding the end zone, but his near indifference about the record is a great sign for what's to come in his future. He clearly isn't focused on setting records; that's not what matters. He's focused on producing the best performance he can, every single time he takes the field.
Landen Williams-Callis record-setting abilities rubs salt in the Aggies' wound
When Williams-Callis committed to Texas, he chose the Longhorns over the Texas A&M Aggies after both SEC programs had recruited him heavily and despite the fact that the Aggies are about an hour closer to his hometown.
Immediately, it proved that the Horns still lay claim to in-state recruiting, even if Texas A&M has grown its allure over the last few years.
Williams-Callis' record-setting ability only added insult to injury for the Aggies, who swung big and missed even bigger on trying to bring him into their fold.
Not to mention the fact that when he set the single-season touchdown record in 2025, he cemented himself above a few beloved Texas A&M running backs, including the Aggies current RB1 Rueben Owens II.
Legendary Aggie RB De'Von Achane moved down to No. 4 on the all-time Houston single-season TD record list, with 50 touchdowns in 2019. Owens dropped to No. 6 on the list with 49 TDs in 2021. And, making things even better for the future Longhorn, Williams-Callis doesn't just claim the No. 1 spot, but also the No. 8 spot with 45 touchdowns during his sophomore campaign.
Already this season, Williams-Callis has logged two rushing touchdowns, bringing his career total to 134 touchdowns and pushing him that much closer to the Texas state high school record (136).
Beyond his record book worthiness, Williams-Callis has the right mindset when it comes to the game, and that's focusing on the work he is putting in at practices and in games. That kind of concentration is going to serve him well once he suits up in the burnt orange and white.
Simply put, get ready Longhorns.
