It's impossible to deny that head coach Mike Elko is doing the right kind of work with the Texas A&M Aggies; they have the nationally ranked No. 1 recruiting class of 2027 after all.
However, the Texas Longhorns just served a big plate of humble pie to their in-state rivals on the recruiting trail, reminding everyone exactly who's the boss in the Lone Star State.
The Horns just landed five-star running back Landen Williams-Callis, bringing him to the 40 Acres over College Station, with the Aggies coming up short of luring him in their direction.

A Texas native, Williams-Callis is the No. 3 prospect out of the Lone Star State, the No. 3 running back in the class, and a top-50 overall prospect per the 247Sports Composite. Yes, Texas A&M has the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation, but the Longhorns just reminded everyone who runs recruiting in the state.

Longhorns reign supreme for in-state recruiting in Texas
With Williams-Callis' commitment, the Horns now claim two of the top five prospects out of Texas, with five-star interior offensive lineman Ismael Camara committing to head coach Steve Sarkisian earlier this summer.

- Ismael Camara, five-star IOL, Texas Longhorns
- Kennedy Brown, five-star IOL, Texas A&M Aggies
- Cooper Witten, four-star LB, Oklahoma Sooners

Even when it comes to position-specific recruiting, the Horns landed the higher-rated IOL in Camara, with the Aggies landing the second-highest-rated IOL in Kennedy Brown.
Most of Texas A&M's top recruits have come from out of the state, with Brown and four-star safety JayQuan Snell coming from the Lone Star State for their ten highest-rated commits.
Meanwhile, the Horns' top 10 includes Camara, Williams-Callis, four-star defensive lineman Cameron Hall, four-star IOL Brian Swanson, and four-star cornerbacks Brandon Sherrard and Montre Jackson, all out of Texas.
Texas has the in-state pull that it has always had, dominating recruiting in the state despite the Aggies being just down the road. Not to mention that when it comes to the two rivals' on-field matchup, the Longhorns are clearly the team on top.
Since joining the SEC in 2024, the Horns have gone 2-0 against the Aggies, including a 17-7 win in College Station in 2024 and a 27-17 win over then-undefeated Texas A&M in 2025.
