It hasn't been much of a secret that the Texas Longhorns have been putting in work to earn a commitment from four-star running back Landen Williams-Callis. However, they're far from the only team trying to land the blue-chip fullback, including quite a few other programs from his home state of Texas.

However, it's none other than the Texas A&M Aggies, the Horns' biggest in-state rivals, who are the biggest hurdle for Texas to jump over on its journey to adding yet another elite prospect to its recruiting class of 2027.

Over the last few days, with increasing frequency, recruiting experts have logged their predictions for where Williams-Callis would commit. They have been split, nearly down the middle, between the Longhorns and the Aggies.

As the No. 3 running back in the recruiting cycle, it came as no surprise that powerhouse programs across the country sent offers in Williams-Callis' direction. However, it also wasn't a big surprise when he quickly narrowed it down to the two powerhouses in his home state.

The Horns, led by head coach Steve Sarkisian, have produced some of the top running back talents in recent memory at the collegiate level, including Bijan Robinson, Roschon Johnson, and more. Not to mention the historic success of running backs on the 40 Acres, including Earl Campbell, Ricky Williams, and Cedric Benson.

Why wouldn't a budding star like Williams-Callis want to come to Austin to join that elite list of fellow running backs?

Texas A&M has some talented alumni to brag about, such as Trayveon Williams or Darren Lewis, for example. However, the list of legendary Aggie running backs comes nowhere close to that of the Longhorns.

Landen Williams-Callis between Longhorns and Aggies

According to On3's projections, the Aggies have a 52.8 percent chance to land Williams-Callis, followed closely by the Horns with a 40.8 percent chance. The SMU Mustangs, yet another Texas-based team, have minimal 1.1 percent odds to receive a commitment from the running back.

Being one of the top running backs in the country, it also came as no surprise that Williams-Callis took full advantage of his recruiting process, taking seven official visits over the last three months. That included trips to Texas, SMU, and Texas A&M, as well as OVs with the LSU Tigers, Indiana Hoosiers, Oregon Ducks, and Missouri Tigers.

Despite all of those visits, things have consistently only come up burnt orange or maroon for Williams-Callis' future.

While it would be ideal for Sarkisian and the Horns to land Williams-Callis, especially if they did so instead of him committing to the Aggies, he isn't the only backfield hope in Texas's recruiting class of 2027.

Sarkisian has already earned a commitment from another four-star running back in Noah Roberts, as well as three-star quarterback Ty Knutson, adding depth and talent to a Texas backfield that is primed to take over college football this season.

While Roberts, Knutson, and Williams-Callis wouldn't officially join the Horns until next year, studying the likes of current Texas stars like quarterback Arch Manning and running back Hollywood Smothers certainly wouldn't hurt.
