In another step toward building one of the most impressive recruiting classes in the country, the Texas Longhorns and head coach Steve Sarkisian just received a commitment from four-star offensive tackle Brian Swanson.
The OT is a native of Dallas, TX, and reportedly had eyes on his hometown team, the SMU Mustangs, as well as the Horns' biggest rivals, the Oklahoma Sooners, but chose to bring his talents to the 40 Acres over the other two programs and a slew of other powerhouse teams.
Swanson took more than a dozen visits to the three schools, taking five trips apiece to Oklahoma and SMU, only making four trips to Austin to visit the Longhorns. However, it clearly didn't take as much face-to-face time for Sarkisian to persuade Swanson that Texas held the best future for him.

At 6-foot-5 and 305 pounds, Swanson already has a massive frame, and because of his four-star rating, earning him the No. 18 rank in the nation at his position, he earned dozens of offers from Division I programs.
Brian Swanson ignores all other offers, chooses Texas over OU, SMU
Despite his numerous offers, Swanson rapidly narrowed his search to the three schools that emerged as frontrunners to land his commitment. Then, after taking official visits with the Longhorns, Sooners, and Mustangs, it didn't take long for Swanson to make up his mind.
- Oklahoma official visit - May 29
- SMU official visit - June 5
- Texas official visit - June 12
It only took five days after his official visit with the Horns for Swanson to commit to Texas, joining a recruiting class that is on the verge of breaking into the top 10 of the national rankings and the top three of the SEC.
SEC team recruiting rankings class of 2027
Currently, Texas's recruiting class of 2027 ranks 11th in the country and fifth in the SEC, narrowly trailing the likes of the LSU Tigers and Florida Gators. As more commitments, like the one from Swanson, continue to roll in, the Horns should only expect to see those rankings improve.
- Texas A&M Aggies
- Oklahoma Sooners
- Florida Gators
- LSU Tigers
- Texas Longhorns
- Auburn Tigers
- Georgia Bulldogs
- Kentucky Wildcats
- Ole Miss Rebels
- Tennessee Volunteers
- Missouri Tigers
- Vanderbilt Commodores
- Arkansas Razorbacks
- South Carolina Gamecocks
- Mississippi State Bulldogs
- Alabama Crimson Tide
Rubbing salt in the wound of the fact that Texas doesn't have the top class in the country is the fact that its rivals claim the No. 1 and 2 spots, with Texas A&M and Oklahoma topping the SEC... for now.

Swanson was the 15th commitment in the class, joining nine other blue-chip prospects in the group: five-star wide receiver Easton Royal and seven four-star recruits. With a third weekend of official visits just around the corner for the Longhorns, Sarkisian and his staff will hopefully be able to add even more blue-chip prospects to the group.
The first commitment Texas might hear about? Five-star cornerback John Meredith III, who earlier this week set his decision date and is deciding between the Horns, the Texas A&M Aggies, and the Alabama Crimson Tide.
