The Texas Longhorns continue to trend in the right direction with seemingly every recruit still available in the class of 2027 that they and head coach Steve Sarkisian have gone after.
That much is true, at the very least, for five-star cornerback John Meredith III, who is the No. 2 overall prospect in the recruiting cycle and is down to just three schools under consideration, including the Horns, the Texas A&M Aggies, and the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Most recently, Meredith set his commitment date, and suddenly, the Longhorns have just a few days to shore up their recruitment of one of the most highly coveted players in the class of 2027.
"THE DAY IS COMING!" Meredith shared on social media, announcing that his decision day would be Friday, June 19.

Meredith grew up in Fort Worth, TX, just a few hours away from the Horns' home base of Austin, and about four hours away from the Aggies' home in College Station. Throughout his recruitment process, he has taken just a handful of visits, but that has included two trips to Texas and Texas A&M, one official and one unofficial visit each.
He also took unofficial visits with the Crimson Tide, the Penn State Nittany Lions, the Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Oklahoma Sooners. His only OVs were the trips he made to Austin and College Station earlier this summer.
Texas Longhorns lead the charge for John Meredith III
In the best news for Sarkisian and the Horns, Meredith is reportedly leaning toward Texas over the other two programs still in the running. According to On3 and Rivals, the Longhorns have an 83.0 percent chance of landing his commitment, followed by the Aggies with 15.3 percent odds, and then the Crimson Tide.

Meredith's summer hasn't been entirely smooth sailing. The state of Texas's UIL governing body ruled him ineligible for the upcoming season after he transferred to play for Crowley High School, but it didn't deter the Longhorns from wanting him on their roster, or create too much stress for the five-star cornerback either.
"It’s fine. It’s nothing too serious. We still have another appeal to go through, but it’s all in God’s hands. I’m not worried at all," Meredith said after the ruling was announced.
Meredith also participated in the Under Armour All-America Game this offseason, earning one tackle and one interception in the scrimmage filled with blue-chip prospects on both sides of the ball.
Standing at 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds, he is still relatively undersized for a collegiate defensive back, but with another year of high school still ahead of him, he could easily tack on a few pounds and an inch or two.
If he committed to the Horns, he would be the 15th commitment in Texas's class of 2026 and the second five-star in the group, joining five-star wide receiver Easton Royal. Alongside the pair of five-star prospects, Sarkisian has also landed commitments from eight four-star recruits and five three-star recruits.
