Just yesterday, four-star edge rusher K.J. Green was scheduled to take an official visit to the Texas Longhorns at the beginning of June.
Now, he's no longer coming to Austin and, instead, spending the weekend in Baton Rouge with the LSU Tigers and head coach Lane Kiffin.
Just like that, despite the Horns already having their visit for the four-star prospect on his calendar, Kiffin and the Tigers were able to convince him to pass up on spending any more time with Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian.
Horns face uphill recruiting battle with SEC program standing in the way
Kiffin taking over in Baton Rouge was the first step in the right direction for LSU's recruiting efforts. Another step in the right direction was Kiffin naming former South Carolina defensive line coach Sterling Lucas to his staff.
Clearly, Lucas's own recruiting efforts are paying off for the Tigers as he continues to attract blue-chip recruits like Green.
Not to mention, Kiffin also just added LSU National Championship-winning former head coach Ed Orgeron to his staff.
Green, the No. 8 EDGE in the class of 2027, has received offers from across the country and has already taken over 40 visits, including eight to Columbia to see the South Carolina Gamecocks and none other than Lucas, who was still their DL coach.

Green will now take an OV to Baton Rouge the weekend of June 5-7, rather than heading down to Austin.

Throughout May and June, Green had five official visits scheduled, including the one to Texas, which has now been replaced by LSU.
Green already took an OV to see the Georgia Bulldogs, his home-state team, and will visit the Oregon Ducks next. After his trip to Baton Rouge, he is scheduled to visit the South Carolina Gamecocks for a ninth time and a fifth visit to see the Alabama Crimson Tide.

These days, players can take unlimited visits, but can only take one official visit per program. So, Green could still schedule a renewed OV to Texas to see everything that the Longhorns and Sarkisian have to offer.
If Green is a player who feels like a must-have for the Horns, they will clearly need to put forth a little stronger effort to keep him from committing to another program in the conference.
