The news of Lane Kiffin and Ed Orgeron uniting forces in LSU's attempt to conquer college football has gotten the reaction that many would expect, and it's something that could have a long-lasting effect on Texas' ability to recruit in Louisiana now and in the future. It's a move that is going to put Steve Sarkisian's outspoken personality to the test.
Is Easton Royal included in that group? You have to believe that's the case. The five-star wide receiver commit has always had a wandering eye and every top team in the conference seems to think they have a shot at flipping him. LSU, however, should have been considered the biggest threat before Orgeron jumped back into the fold and should definitely be the school to watch now that he's back.
“Don’t think O can’t help in the Easton Royal recruitment. Anybody in the state of Louisiana is fair game right now with Ed Orgeron back on board. Tigers really now have a foothold in the state.” @LouisianaBKM

"That's why you come to LSU. That's why Lane Kiffin came to LSU," Teddy Brennan, who covers LSU football for New Orleans-based Boot Krewe media, said about the Tigers' ability to land the top players in the state.
"You've already had elite recruiting in of itself. Kiffin has been all over the place, particularly in New Orleans, but, of course, Corey Raymond and certainly others. The Tigers now really have a foothold in Louisiana, they really need to lock down this 2027 class," Brennan added.
Texas must be prepared for a major recruiting battle with LSU
Texas knew that LSU wasn't just going to let Royal go to Austin without a fight. The Tigers already have to watch Arch Manning represent New Orleans for the burnt orange. The last thing Kiffin wants to do is watch the Longhorns create a pipeline from New Orleans to Austin by losing the top kids in the area.
Orgeron, however, brings a whole different challenge. He's Louisiana royalty. For as many flaws as Orgeron has had over the many years he's coached, none of them have stuck with him in the state of Louisiana. He helped LSU get past the dead-ball Les Miles years and led the Tigers to one of the most dominant championship runs in recent college football history. He brings a level of authenticity that Kiffin doesn't have. He's pure Louisiana. He speaks like them. He knows their neighborhoods, He's eaten and drunk at their local diners and dives. That will be much harder for Sark and the Longhorns staff to recruit against. It's easier to mock Kiffin because he's such a disaster waiting to happen and a generally dishonest human being.
For now, Sarkisian and staff are preparing for several busy weekends of official visits that will culminate with Royal's trip on June 19. Before Royal makes his way to Austin, he'll visit LSU on May 29, Tennessee on June 5 and Florida on June 11-12. All three programs believe they can flip him and are aggressively trying to do so. Texas still has the advantage of the commitment and will have the priority of being his final visit before the dead period. But LSU has been turning up the juice on this recruiting battle and the addition of Orgeron will get things that much tighter.
