With spring football practices just around the corner, the Texas Longhorns are about to return to the field, and fans should feel even more excited about this year's squad than any of the hype allowed them to feel last season.
Head coach Steve Sarkisian went on a shopping spree in the transfer portal, and quarterback Arch Manning has gained some big-time weapons in his offense, namely wideout Cam Coleman and running back Hollywood Smothers.
This week, insiders shared that Coleman had looked as promising in winter practices as everyone had hoped, giving Manning his likely go-to guy, especially following the departure of one of his favorite targets and roommate, Parker Livingstone.
"We knew [Coleman] had some speed, but the film doesn’t do him justice," Orangebloods' insider Anward Richardson said. "This guy can absolutely fly. It’s ridiculous how fast he is. He adds a speed dimension to the receivers' room that we didn’t have last year."
Cam Coleman should undeniably be Arch Manning's new WR1
Of course, the Longhorns also lost DeAndre Moore Jr., who entered the 2026 NFL Draft after last season concluded.
So, even with leading receiver Ryan Wingo returning, the Horns desperately needed some more depth at the wideout position. Coleman filled the hole perfectly.
With a lackluster quarterback room at Auburn, Coleman still amassed 1,306 receiving yards for 13 touchdowns over the last two years. With a quarterback like Manning throwing to him, he should easily see those numbers skyrocket.
Update: New Texas WR Cam Coleman continues to impress during winter workouts for the Longhorns

"This week, I was told Coleman has been “killing it” in winter workouts. One attribute that continues to stand out is his speed." - @AnwarRichardson

Manning's starting targets will likely be Coleman, Wingo, Emmett Mosley IV, and tight end Nick Townsend or Michael Masunas, giving him a lot of speed downfield and a lot of size closer to the line of scrimmage.
Smothers shouldn't be ignored as a possible passing target as well, having earned over 450 receiving yards for three touchdowns over his first three seasons of college football.
To put it lightly, Texas fans should be very, very excited about Sarkisian's rebuilt offense and the promise of another dominant Longhorn team this season.
