As spring practice draws near, injury updates for multiple positions have begun to roll in, and Texas' coaching staff just got some news regarding both Ryan Wingo and Emmett Mosley V.
According to Orangebloods.com's Anwar Richardson, both players are progressing well and haven't experienced any setbacks as of right now. Both players underwent offseason surgeries, Wingo for his wrist and Mosley V for his ankle/foot.
He also revealed the team's plans in case Wingo and Mosley need more time to recover before hitting the field for spring ball.
"I was told that if Wingo is limited this spring, Kaliq Lockett will be next up on the outside, while Daylan McCutcheon would slide into the slot in place of Mosley."
This is great information because it confirms what everyone has been figuring to be the case, regarding the depth at "Z" and in the slot. The coaching staff was very high on both Lockett and McCutcheon last spring, and it appears that both of them are officially heading into 2026 as members of the two-deep at wide receiver. It's going to be interesting to see who Steve Sarkisian and Co. see as the backup "X" right now behind Cam Coleman.
Realistically, incoming Wake Forest transfer Sterling Berkhalter could be first in line to see No.2 reps there in the spring due to his size and experience. True freshman Jermaine Bishop should push for playing time early, but he's likely an interior player and could do most of his damage from the slot due to his athleticism and short-area quickness.
Michael Terry III has a prototypical "X" frame, but it's unclear what his role will be going forward, as the team decided to switch him to running back in 2025.
Nevertheless, it sounds like the Longhorns will be heading into spring with a fairly healthy wide receiver room.
