The ongoing dance the Texas Longhorns are doing with five-star wide receiver Easton Royal, despite his eight-month-long commitment to the program, has grown increasingly exhausting.
And, despite Royal himself trying to tamp down what the rumor mill (AKA, the recruiting experts) is pumping about his commitment flipping from the Horns to the LSU Tigers, fans have become weary of the blue-chip prospect.
Even as the highest-rated player currently in Texas's class of 2027, fans are virtually ready to say goodbye to the idea of him wearing burnt orange during his collegiate career.
Along the same vein, if Royal would just make his final decision already, instead of allowing this back-and-forth to drag out for month after month after month after... you get it... the Longhorns and head coach Steve Sarkisian would be able to focus their efforts (and NIL warchest) on players who actually want to be at Texas.
One big target, despite having committed to the Indiana Hoosiers, still on Texas's radar is five-star wide receiver Monshun Sales.
Yes, Sales committed to his home-state Hoosiers, choosing Indiana over the Longhorns, just a few weeks ago, but Sarkisian and his staff have refused to abandon ship on bringing him to Texas. In fact, the team is pushing hard for Sales to come to the 40 Acres for the Horns' top-tier matchup against the Ohio State Buckeyes in Week 2.

Not only a massive game for Texas when it comes to the 2026 season, but if recruits like Sales come to town, it could also be one of the biggest selling points for the Longhorns' sales pitch.
Imagine coming to Austin (an incredible city), attending a blue-blood matchup at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium (an amazing venue), and seeing the Longhorns get a revenge win over a team that has had their number over the last few seasons (a feeling unlike any other).
If Monshun Sales comes to Texas-Ohio State, Horns could have perfect pitch to flip his commitment
Those three things, combined with spending more time with the top-tier players currently on Texas's roster and the coaching staff, could do nothing but help the Horns' chances of flipping Sales in their direction.
Not to mention, the possibility of having the open spot for WR1 on the depth chart that Royal currently occupies could make Texas a much more attractive landing spot for Sales.
Yes, the Hoosiers won the National Championship last season, but when it comes to true powerhouse programs, Indiana pales in comparison to the Texas Longhorns. Much less if those Horns pull off a massive win over the Buckeyes with Sales in attendance.
Sales has yet to confirm if he will, in fact, be in town for the Texas-Ohio State game, but if he is, keep your eyes peeled for flip rumors flying to the forefront of conversations.
The Longhorns and the Buckeyes are scheduled to play on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 6:30 p.m. CT with or without Sales in attendance. The winner of the matchup could easily find themselves atop the AP Top 25 Poll heading into Week 3.
