Mike White, the head coach of the two-time defending National Champion Texas softball team, just landed his third big fish out of the transfer portal pond.

Former Florida State Seminoles shortstop Isa Torres, who was one of the top prospects still remaining in the portal, committed to Texas amid a slew of offers from powerhouse programs across the country.

The best news? Well, beyond landing a top transfer recruit and keeping her away from other teams, Torres could slide perfectly into the Horns' starting lineup, which had a few holes after their title-defending run.

Both catcher Reese Atwood and second baseman Leighann Goode left the program after reaching the end of their eligibility and getting drafted into the AUSL. White already landed Samantha Swan out of the portal, filling the hole left behind by Atwood with the former Arizona State catcher.

Torres makes for an incredible replacement for Goode. While Torres mainly played shortstop at Florida State, she has quite a bit of experience at second base, leaving room for returning Texas shortstop Vivi Martinez to keep her current role with the Longhorns.

Gap left by Leighann Goode departure filled for Texas

Goode was a critical piece of Texas's defensive surge through this season's Women's College World Series, bringing down some gravity-defying catches for outs. Her chemistry, working alongside Martinez at shortstop, on the field was undeniable, and the expectation (and hope) is likely that Torres could do the same.

During Torres' three-year tenure with the Seminoles, she broke multiple school records, including batting average (.530), runs (78), slugging percentage (.978), and on-base percentage (.591). Furthermore, she was named the ACC Player and Defender of the Year, the D1Softball Player of the Year, and a consensus First-Team All-American.

At the plate, Torres logged an incredible 98 hits for 56 RBIs, including 16 home runs. She earned 63 putouts with a .989 fielding percentage, committing just two errors throughout the season.

At the end of the 2026 season, Torres helped lead Florida State to a conference title in the ACC Softball Tournament and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament, where they hosted a Regional Round, falling to the UCF Knights before securing a ticket to the Super Regional.

Beyond Torres and Swan, the Longhorns also received a commitment from former Texas Tech pitcher Samantha Lincoln, who played a supporting role to NiJaree Canady throughout her tenure with the Red Raiders.

While Swan, Torres, and Lincoln have yet to be tested alongside the current Longhorns, White has built an undeniable monster of a roster in Austin. Beyond the transfer portal, the Horns also welcomed the No. 4 recruiting class of 2026 this offseason, adding even more depth to an already highly talented program.

To put it lightly, the only thing that looks like it could get in the way of this Texas softball team is itself as the Horns look to produce a three-peat at the Women's College World Series.
