Despite being fresh off their back-to-back National Championships, the Texas Longhorns can't keep everyone on their roster.

The Texas Longhorns just secured a National Championship for the second straight year after the softball team swept the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the Women's College World Series.

Now the postseason begins, and with it, a charge to secure Texas softball's third consecutive WCWS title.

However, the offseason also comes with an open transfer portal. While a lot of players only dream of playing for a National Championship-winning program, some are looking for more playing time, something they can't quite get on head coach Mike White's roster.

Texas softball players who entered the transfer portal

Since the Horns' season ended, just two Texas players have entered the portal, and White has yet to pick up a transfer for his roster, continuing his trend of relying on high school recruiting instead of digging into the portal.

  • Shylien Brister, infielder, three years of eligibility remaining
  • Cambria Salmon, pitcher, two years of eligiblity remaining

During Texas's National Championship run, Brister appeared in just 28 games, earning nine starts, out of the Longhorns' 65-game season. During her freshman season (2025), Salmon threw for 62 innings and posted a 2.48 ERA. She only pitched for 39.2 innings in 2026 and earned a 2.12 ERA.

Texas softball additions from the transfer portal

White has yet to make any additions to his roster from the transfer portal, but the Longhorns did land a top-four recruiting class of 2026, a group that will join Texas in the fall.

The class includes seven prospects: infielder Annie Abdullah from Florida, utility player Jordynn Booe from right up the road in Pflugerville, TX, outfielder Josie Busceme from Austin, catcher and first baseman Mia Clemmer from Texas, right-handed pitcher Madi Doty from Texas, utility player Aubrey Portie from Louisiana, and catcher and outfielder Stevie South from Texas.

According to D1Softball and Softball America, the class ranks No. 4 in the country, adding a slew of elite prospects to Texas's already impressive roster.

"It is a class loaded with talent covering all the major areas in the game, including pitching, catching, infield, and outfield. We're excited to welcome them to the Longhorn family," White said of his recruiting class. "The future remains bright for the program."

Additionally, while beloved and elite players like pitcher Citlaly Gutierrez and catcher Reese Atwood saw their collegiate eligibility come to an end, stars like pitcher Teagan Kavan will undoubtedly be back for another season with the Longhorns.

"I'm so proud to be a Longhorn," Kavan said right after securing the National Championship for Texas and the Most Outstanding Player award (also for a second consecutive year) for herself.

Atwood was one of two Longhorns drafted into the Athletes Unlimited Softball League, going seventh overall to the Carolina Blaze. Infielder Leighann Goode was also selected, going eighth overall in the 2026 AUSL Draft to the Texas Volts, alongside Texas Tech star pitcher NiJaree Canady.
