2 Texas players who moved to RB in Tuesday's fall practice
In the second day of fall practice of this week, Texas football took part in drills under the lights on the practice field on Tuesday night. While it's been a crazy past week or 10 days for Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian in preseason camp, I want to highlight the fact that the team has upped the intensity and competition in fall practice.
Who's moving to running back from other positions for Texas football in fall camp?
But the headline that's dominated the news cycle for the Longhorns in the last week is the two season-ending running back injuries. Texas has lost both sophomore running back CJ Baxter Jr. and true freshman Christian Clark to season-ending lower-body injuries in the past 10 days in fall practice.
Baxter suffered a season-ending torn PCL/LCL injury in fall practice last week, which brought the Longhorns down to four scholarship running backs on the roster that were healthy entering the first fall scrimmage last Saturday.
Texas's depth got even thinner in the backfield when Clark suffered a torn Achilles on a non-contact play in practice on Monday.
The injuries to Clark and Baxter have brought Texas down to just three scholarship running backs who are healthy a few weeks out from the regular season opener on Aug. 31 against Colorado State. Texas needs more bodies in the backfield to make sure they're good to go entering the non-conference slate, including the big-time matchup on the road in Week 2 against the Michigan Wolverines.
Sarkisian tried moving a couple of players on the offensive side of the ball at the skill positions to take running back practice reps in drills on Aug. 13. Here are the two players the Longhorns tried out at running back, moving from other position groups, in practice this week.
