Texas football true freshman running back Christian Clark will miss the 2024 season due to a torn Achilles injury he suffered during Monday's fall practice on Aug. 12, UT confirmed via a press release on Tuesday.

CJ Baxter Jr. and Christian Clark both set to miss the 2024 season for Texas football's RB position

Clark will reportedly undergo surgery to repair the torn Achilles tendon.

During Monday's fall practice, Clark suffered a lower-body injury and was helped off the practice field.

Clark is the second Texas running back in the last week during preseason camp to suffer a season-ending injury. Sophomore running back CJ Baxter Jr. suffered a torn LCL/PCL in the first full week of fall practice for the Longhorns last week. Baxter will also miss the entire 2024 season after suffering the knee injury last week in practice.

With Baxter and Clark now out for the entirety of the 2024 season, the Longhorns are down to three scholarship running backs on the roster a little over two weeks into preseason camp. Texas's three remaining scholarship running backs on the roster who are healthy at this point in fall practice are junior Jaydon Blue, sophomore Tre Wisner, and true freshman Jerrick Gibson.

Baxter was expected to split the RB1 carries with Blue in preseason camp this fall. He was one of the two running backs the Longhorns and head coach Steve Sarkisian relied on down the stretch last season after junior starter Jonathon Brooks went down with a season-ending knee injury against TCU in November.

Last season, Baxter rushed for 659 yards, five rushing touchdowns, and 156 receiving yards on 24 catches with no receiving touchdowns.

Clark, meanwhile, was entering his true freshman campaign at Texas this fall. He was an early enrollee that signed with the Longhorns in the 2024 recruiting class. Clark was a four-star recruit from Phoenix (AZ) Mountain Pointe High School who ranked as the No. 339 prospect nationally in the 2024 class in the 247Sports Composite, No. 23 running back, and No. 6 from Arizona.
