3 best Texas shooters for the 2024-25 season
Jordan Pope, G
Texas's staff did tremendous work in the transfer portal this spring and summer to upgrade the backcourt and wing rotations by adding a few immediate impact playmakers and role players.
Among the true playmakers and high-level scorers the Longhorns got from the portal this offseason, Mark and Pope truly stick out as the best of the transfer class. Mark should provide real scoring punch off the dribble and off-ball from beyond the arc to the starting unit at the two or the three, wherever Terry decides to play him alongside Johnson.
Pope, meanwhile, is a very capable potential starter at the one for the Longhorns next season. Pope brings shot-making and court vision to facilitate the offense and the necessary ball movement for Terry's system on that end of the floor.
The real specialty for Pope, though, is his ability to make tough shots off-the-dribble from the mid-range and beyond the arc. He led Oregon State in field goal percentage on contested two and three-point attempts last season (per Synergy).
Pope can nail open and contested shots from the mid-range and from almost any spot from three-point range. Last season, he ranked top five among Pac-12 guards in mid-range two-point field goal percentage (50.0 percent). He's also shot north of 37 percent from beyond the arc in both seasons he spent at Oregon State.
