3 big overreactions after Texas's dismantling of UTSA
Ryan Wingo deserves more WR reps with the ones
True freshman wide receiver Ryan Wingo has looked the part of an ultra-hyped up five-star recruit with all the talent in the world for the Longhorns' offense early this fall.
Wingo led Texas in receiving yards, yards per catch, and ranked second in yards after the catch in the 49-point throttling of the Roadrunners this weekend. Highlighted by a long-75 yard deep touchdown pass from Manning in the second half, Wingo finished up the win over UTSA with three catches for a career-high 127 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown.
Junior wide receiver Isaiah Bond and Wingo were the only two Texas wideouts that crossed the 100-receiving yard threshold in this game against UTSA in Week 3.
Wingo was one of many freshmen for the Longhorns who looked great against UTSA this weekend. Among the offensive contributors, Wingo, Manning, and true freshman running back Jerrick Gibson all made some big plays in this game.
And on the defensive side of the ball, true freshman edge rusher Colin Simmons, freshman linebacker TyAnthony Smith, and freshman linebacker Derion Gullette all showed flashes by making plays against UTSA's offense.
Moreover, Wingo might be the most impressive player in a really talented and impactful group of true freshmen for the Longhorns. Wingo has literally been perfect in the two games he's been targeted in the receiving game this season, in wins over the Colorado State Rams in Week 1 and UTSA in Week 3 where's he caught all seven of his targets for nearly 200 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Wingo also had a carry for 55 rushing yards on a sweep play in the decisive 31-12 road victory over the No. 10 Michigan Wolverines last weekend.
