3 key Texas recruits impressed by early-June official visits
Javion Hilson, EDGE
Texas could not have done much better this weekend with elite high-four-star Cocoa (FL) edge rusher and Florida State Seminoles commit Javion Hilson during his official visit to Austin. Hilson said that the Texas official visit "really opened his eyes" this weekend.
The buzz coming out of his official visit is that Texas moved up into Hilson's top two schools entering the back half of his summer trips. Hilson put the Longhorns up there with Florida State among the top two schools in his recruitment after the conclusion of his trip to Austin.
Hilson had a lot of great things to say about the Longhorns after the conclusion of his official visit, including the player development, elevate on-field success under Sarkisian, and the offerings in a big city like Austin. He specifically mentioned the Longhorns sending a double-digit number of players to the NFL Draft in 2024.
The only two official visits that remain for Hilson before he's thinking about shutting down his recruitment are to see the UCF Knights (June 14) and Florida State (June 21). He told Inside Texas on June 9 (paid content) that he'll compare Florida State and Texas and make his final decision after his summer official visits are finished up in a few weeks.
That said, Hilson hasn't announced a definitive timeline for his final decision. While most elite recruits like to have their decisions made before the start of their senior year to get the recruiting process wrapped up and focus on football, some still take their recruitments through signing day in December or February.
