Texas makes big move for No. 1 2025 EDGE Javion Hilson
One of the highest-rated recruits Texas football hosted during this first big June weekend of official visits is the elite high-four-star Cocoa (FL) edge rusher and Florida State Seminoles commit Javion Hilson. The No. 1 edge rusher recruit in the nation in the 2025 class in the 247Sports Composite made his first visit to Austin since Texas offered him last fall.
Texas football makes a great impression on No. 1 2025 EDGE Javion Hilson this weekend
The early returns from Hilson's official visit to Texas this weekend have been resoundingly positive. Horns247 reported on June 9 (paid content) that Texas jumped the Florida Gators among Hilson's top group of schools this summer.
Hilson said his recruitment is currently coming down to a battle between Texas and Florida State. He specifically noted that Texas "opened my eyes" and that it "was a crazy atmosphere" in Austin this weekend during his official visit.
"It was crazy, it was a crazy atmosphere and I've never seen nothing like that. Texas is big when they say Texas is big they mean Texas is big. Comparing this to Florida, it's nice."

A few other things Hilson really liked about the experience at Texas for his official visit this weekend was the feeling he gets in a big city like Austin, Texas's production in the NFL Draft this year, and his fit in Pete Kwiatkowski's defensive front at EDGE.
Texas compared the way they could use Hilson off the EDGE to the plan PK and the Longhorns have along the front seven for freshman edge rusher Colin Simmons this upcoming season in the SEC.
It also sounds like Hilson's family really enjoyed the official visit experience at Texas in the last couple of days. His mom and siblings seemed to reportedly really like Austin and what UT has to offer on and off the field.
Two official visits remain for Hilson in Florida this month
Texas and Florida are the two official visits Hilson has already taken this summer. He has official trips remaining to see the UCF Knights (June 14) and Florida State (June 21) in the next two weekends.
We should know more about where the Longhorns sit in Hilson's eyes as he looks to narrow down his options for a decision before the start of his senior season.
