Silas Bolden, WR

I've said this already since doing my instant takeaways from yesterday's scrimmage, but it sounds like it was a real battle between Texas's skill guys in the receiving game and the quarterbacks against a stout secondary. Texas's quarterbacks and receivers had to be on point and on time with their connections through the air to even have a chance against the defensive backs with how impressive they've been as a unit in coverage in the last couple of fall scrimmages since last weekend.

If there was any one wideout for the Longhorns who impressed in the second fall scrimmage this weekend, despite the air-tight coverage from the first and second-team defensive backs yesterday, it was senior Oregon State transfer Silas Bolden.

Bolden reportedly had a few big plays with explosive catches in the passing game and a big punt return for the special teams return unit. Orangebloods' Anwar Richardson reported (subscriber content) that Bolden was "lightning quick" with his speed on the punt return. He reportedly broke off a big return where he eluded multiple tacklers and would've set the offense up with great field position on the plus side of the 50 from that play.

We also heard about Bolden making a nice catch on a deep ball over the top, which was one of the few explosive plays Texas could generate from the first and second-team offenses yesterday through the air.

Bolden has really done nothing but impress in his first few weeks of preseason camp with the Longhorns since he arrived on campus for the start of summer workouts a couple of months ago. He's earned his spot on the two-deep at receiver and is making waves as maybe Texas's best option for a punt returner this fall from all the big special teams plays he's made in camp recently.
