The highly-anticipated first day of fall practice took place for Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian on Wednesday afternoon. July 31 marked the first day of training camp for Texas before the first season playing in the SEC begins this fall.

Multiple Texas football players impress on the first day of fall practice this week

The first day of fall practice doesn't really yield much in the way of actual physical competition or meaningful team drills. But it did provide a glimpse for the media to see how the two-deep depth charts are stacking up on either side of the ball during the media viewing window at the end of practice.

It also showed how players are looking physically coming off the bus for the first day of fall practice after the conclusion of the summer strength and conditioning program last week.

Here are three takeaways from the first day of fall practice for the Longhorns on July 31.

Cam Williams is ready for a breakout season in 2024

Many were wondering what the offensive tackle combinations were going to look like with the first, second, and third teams in the first day of fall practice for Kyle Flood this afternoon.

The first team offensive line was as expected entering preseason camp, with Kelvin Banks Jr., Hayden Conner, Jake Majors, DJ Campbell, and Cam Williams starting from left-to-right. Here's how the other two units along the offensive line shaped up on the first day of practice today.

Second-team: Trevor Goosby, Cole Hutson, Connor Robertson, Neto Umeozulu, Andre Cojoe

Third-team: Malik Agbo, Connor Stroh, Daniel Cruz, Jaydon Chatman, Brandon Baker

The fact that Flood had an offensive tackle as talented as Baker taking the third-team reps on the first day of fall practice just goes to show how good the depth is right now at all spots for the Longhorns along the O-Line.

What might have impressed me the most about the offensive line combinations on the first day of practice was how Williams looked and performed on the practice field. Williams really looks the part of an NFL offensive tackle, and he was moving like one too.

Orangebloods' Alex Dunlap reported that Williams physically stood out in individual lineman drills and in the duo blocking drills for the offensive linemen today.

From everything we've heard since late in spring ball, it appears that Williams is on track to be a very effective replacement at right tackle after the departure of senior Christian Jones this offseason. There's even a chance that Williams could be better in pass pro than Jones was for the last few years for the Longhorns at offensive tackle.
