3 takeaways from Texas's first week of fall practice
Quinn Ewers playing mistake-free football to open training camp
Texas's quarterback room has looked fantastic in the first week of fall practice. We've already discussed on the site this week that redshirt junior Quinn Ewers and redshirt freshman Arch Manning have proved in the first four days of drills in fall camp that Sarkisian and Texas has the most talented quarterback room in the country in 2024.
Ewers followed up a solid first two days of fall practice, which included the media viewing windows on Wednesday and Thursday, with two more stout and consistent performances this weekend. He reportedly had complete command of the offense in Friday's practice.
And it sounds like Ewers was the best and most consistent performer for Texas among the quarterbacks during the closed practice at DKR on Saturday night. Ewers threw a couple of nice touchdowns during team drills and simulated live-game settings in Saturday's practice.
He was the only quarterback who didn't throw an interception in Saturday's practice, as Manning and true freshman Trey Owens combined for a couple of picks yesterday.
Something that's very encouraging to hear about Ewers in the first week of fall practice is that he's making smart decisions with the football. He's not only getting the ball out on time and showing good chemistry with his wideouts early in preseason camp, but he's also avoiding those costly mistakes that can result in turnovers and missed opportunities on throws.
