Defensive line recruiting is a major focus for Texas football in the 2025 class this summer. Texas is looking to take at least three or four defensive tackles for 2025 after being lighter at the position for the 2024 cycle.

What's next for Texas football's 2025 DL recruiting efforts?

The Longhorns suffered a couple of key setbacks at defensive tackle for 2025 from decisions on June 28 from two of the top out-of-state targets for this cycle.

Four-star Sacramento (CA) Folsom defensive lineman Josiah Sharma picked the Oregon Ducks over Texas and the Alabama Crimson Tide in the first of two commitments that didn't go in the Longhorns' favor on Friday. The second big miss at defensive tackle for the Longhorns on June 28 was for Port Charlotte (FL) four-star Myron Charles, who committed to the Florida State Seminoles over Texas.

Texas will continue to recruit Charles and Sharma through the finish line on signing day in December. But these key misses on the recruiting trail for the 2025 class at defensive tackle put a lot more pressure on the Longhorns to keep Melbourne (FL) Eau Gallie DL Brandon Brown committed and to land Belville (TX) four-star DJ Sanders this summer.

In all likelihood, Kenny Baker and the Longhorns will circle back with other defensive tackle offers in the 2025 class to gauge if there's any interest with them. Texas could also extend a few other offers to cast a wider net with underrated defensive linemen in the 2025 class entering the fall.

Here are three underrated 2025 defensive line prospects the Longhorns could offer this summer.

Jaymar Tasi, Seattle (WA) Roosevelt

Texas is looking for big humans in the trenches who can compete week in and week out in the SEC on the defensive side of the ball. The 6-foot-2 and 300-pound defensive tackle from Washington, three-star Jaymar Tasi, fits that mould of big humans that occupy a lot of space along the defensive line that the Longhorns are looking for on this side of the ball.

Tasi's recruitment has only recently picked up with some offers from West Coast schools. His first offer came from the FCS Montana State Bobcats early in the 2024 calendar year. Since then, he's received his first two FBS offers from the Nevada Wolfpack and Oregon State Beavers.

Nevada was his first FBS offer after he won the defensive line MVP award at the Under Armour Seattle showcase earlier this month. Oregon State offered soon after Nevada did. The Oregon Ducks have also kicked the tires on sending a scholarship offer out to Tasi.

Tasi's high school film shows he plays both sides of the ball for Roosevelt High School in Seattle, WA. He's got a lot of power thanks to his strong lower base and center of gravity. Tasi isn't afraid of finishing or fighting through blocks, depending on which side of the ball he's playing.

From a hand usage and pad level perspective, Tasi looks like he could be a solid defensive tackle prospect for a Power 4 school. He has the size and power to be a two-gapping nose tackle. But he's also got the quickness and ability to shed blocks to make plays around the line of scrimmage in run defense.

Tasi still has some work to do to polish his fundamentals and footwork if he does play defensive tackle at the collegiate level. But he's got the type of size, versatility, and upside as a two-gapping interior defensive lineman. It could be intriguing for the Longhorns as a potential depth take in the 2025 class to get the numbers situation where it needs to be at defensive tackle.
