4 bold predictions for Texas vs. Mississippi State
By Brian Sweet
Texas Football returns to the field on Saturday afternoon, taking on the Mississippi State Bulldogs in their first-ever SEC Conference football game. It will be a spectacle because the Longhorns are favored to win this week's matchup by more than 35 points.
The Longhorns haven't announced whether Quinn Ewers or Arch Manning will be the starting quarterback against the Bulldogs. Here are four bold predictions for the Longhorns against the Bulldogs.
Texas football vs. Mississippi State bold predictions: 4. Quinn Ewers returns and puts on a Heisman performance
I know I've mentioned that Quinn Ewers should sit this game out so he's fully healthy for the Oklahoma Sooners matchup on Oct. 12. However, don't be surprised if Ewers returns to the field this weekend and puts on a Heisman performance against the Bulldogs.
Ewers is one of the top quarterbacks in the country and has the experience to lead the Longhorns to their first SEC Conference win. Ewers could let every SEC team know that the Longhorns aren't playing this season.
3. Isaiah Bond has a career game
Longhorns receiver Isiah Bond could have a career game against the Bulldogs. I've mentioned that he could end up being one of the top receivers in the SEC since he's Ewers and Manning's favorite target. Bond quickly became one of the fan favorites in Austin with his James Bond endzone celebration when Bond scored a touchdown.
I wouldn't be surprised if he found the endzone several times this weekend against the Bulldogs.
2. Longhorns stampede the end zone
I think the Longhorns' running attack could play a factor in beating the Bulldogs this weekend. Jaydon Blue and Jerrick Gibson found the endzone multiple times against the Warhawks last weekend. If the Bulldogs can shut down the passing attack, the Longhorns have two capable running backs who can find the end zone. I wouldn't be shocked if both running backs at least scored one touchdown in this week's matchup against the Bulldogs.
1. Defense wins championships
The Bulldogs had a tough time on offense against the Florida Gators last weekend. My last bold prediction for this weekend is that the defense will score a touchdown.
The Longhorns had one last week against the Warhawks. I wouldn't be surprised if the Longhorns' defense could force a turnover and return it for a touchdown. As the saying goes, "defense wins championships." The Longhorns' defense will be a factor in this weekend's game.
