4 bold predictions for Texas vs. UL-Monroe
By Brian Sweet
Texas Football returns to DKR Memorial Stadium on Saturday night to take on the UL-Monroe Warhawks. Quinn Ewers is doubtful about playing this Saturday due to his abdominal strain. Arch Manning will get the start against the Warhawks.
Manning will have a good game against the Warhawks but don't expect the stat line he put up against the Roadrunners last week. Let's look at four bold predictions for the Longhorns as they take on the Warhawks.
Texas Football bold predictions vs. ULM: 4. Arch Manning doesn't have a career game
Please don't shoot me, Longhorns fans; Manning might have a career game against the Warhawks. UTSA has been blown out by two teams this season, including the Longhorns. The Roadrunners are a terrible football team this season.
The Warhawks will give Manning a tougher challenge this Saturday. I still think Manning will have a good game against the Warhawks, but it won't be at the level he was against the Roadrunners. Don't be surprised if Manning gets humbled a bit.
3. Defense holds the Warhawks to zero points in the first half
I think the Longhorns' defense will show up in the first half and shut out the Warhawks in the first half. I don't think the defense will hold them to zero points on Saturday. Warhawks QB General Booty is a good quarterback and will get at least a touchdown against the Longhorns. That touchdown will come in the second half.
On Saturday night, it will be a good outing against the Warhawks for the Longhorn's defense. They will be ready for the Mississippi State Bulldogs to kick off their inaugural SEC Conference schedule.
2. Receivers feast against Warhawks defense
The Longhorns' wide receiving core should have a good outing against the Warhawks' secondary. I expect most of the wide receivers on the Longhorns to get a touchdown on Saturday night. I've mentioned that opponents have had difficulty shutting down the core this season.
They can't cover them all and expect to win. Isaiah Bond should have no issue getting at least two touchdowns this week against the Warhawks' secondary.
1. Trey Owens will get playing time
If Arch Manning plays better than I mentioned above this week, Trey Owens should get some playing time against the Warhawks. This would be another great test in case Ewers or Manning get injured in the same game.
I doubt that will happen this season, but you must prepare him for the scenario. Owens can keep his redshirt if he doesn't play in more than four games. You might as well get him some reps against a team he could move down the field against.
