Here are four key Texas commitments to watch this weekend in high school football action around the country.

KJ Lacey, QB (Saraland, AL)

Saraland vs. Blount (AL): Aug. 30, 7 p.m. CT

Four-star Saraland (AL) quarterback KJ Lacey will look to lead his team to a 2-0 start to the 2024 season as they take on Blount at home on Aug. 30.

Lacey was tremendous for Saraland in its 35-27 season-opening win last week over Jackson (AL). Lacey threw for over 300 yards, four passing touchdowns, and one interception in Saraland's one-score win over Jackson in the season opener.

Dia Bell, QB (Fort Lauderdale (FL) American Heritage)

American Heritage vs. Davie (FL) Western: Aug. 30, 7 p.m. CT

The other Texas quarterback commit in action around the high school football landscape this week is the elite Fort Lauderdale (FL) American Heritage five-star Dia Bell. American Heritage is looking for its first win of the 2024 season after it fell to the Milton (GA) Eagles, by a score of 37-28, last week.

Bell threw for 157 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions in the loss to Milton on Aug. 23 (per MaxPreps). Bell also rushed for 29 yards on seven carries in American Heritage's opener.

Nick Townsend, TE (Spring (TX) Dekaney)

Dekaney vs. Port Arthur (TX) Memorial: Aug. 30, 7 p.m. CT

The uber-athletic four-star tight end commit Nick Townsend opens up his senior season with Spring (TX) Dekaney High School on Aug. 30 against the Port Arthur (TX) Memorial Titans at home.

Townsend was very productive while playing on both sides of the ball for Dekaney last season. He registered over 400 receiving yards and seven touchdowns while playing at tight end on offense for Dekaney in 2023. Meanwhile, Townsend racked up over 100 tackles, a dozen tackles for loss, and eight sacks while playing outside linebacker/edge rusher on defense last season.

Kaliq Lockett, WR (Sachse, TX)

Sachse vs. Coppell (TX): Aug. 30, 7 p.m. CT

Texas's sole wide receiver commitment in the 2025 recruiting class, Sachse (TX) five-star Kaliq Lockett, opens up his senior season at home on Aug. 30 against the Coppell (TX) Cowboys.

Lockett was a star in the receiving game for Sachse last season, registering well over 1,200 receiving yards and 13 touchdown catches.
