4 reasons why Texas will handily defeat UL-Monroe
By Brian Sweet
Texas Football will face the UL-Monroe Warhawks on Saturday night. Arch Manning will start at QB after Quinn Ewers left the game with an abdominal sprain.
While the Longhorns should easily beat the Warhawks, they will give them a more formidable challenge than the UTSA Roadrunners did last week. With Isaiah Bond having the fastest speed on the football field last week, the sky is the limit for the Longhorns. Here are four reasons why they will beat the Warhawks on Saturday night.
Why Texas football will defeat UL-Monroe: 4. Arch Manning
Arch Manning was thrown into the game last weekend after Ewers went down. It didn't take long for him to find the endzone to continue the momentum the offense created on the field. I would expect Manning to be as dominant as he was against the Roadrunners.
I expect Manning to get benched by halftime so Trey Owens can get some playing time in case Ewers and Manning get injured in the same game.
3. Isaiah Bond
Bond will be a threat this weekend against the Warhawks secondary. He is one of the fastest receivers in college football this season. I expect him to be doing his signature touchdown celebration a couple of times in the endzone on Saturday night.
The Warhawks' secondary won't be able to cover all of the Longhorns' receivers, so I'm sure Bond will have times during the game when he will be wide-open downfield. Expect Bond to be one of the reasons why the Longhorns win this weekend.
2. Suffocating Defense
The Longhorns' defense should suffocate the Warhawks' offense this weekend without any issues. Through the first three weeks of the season, the Longhorns have taken their opponents out of the game by shutting down their offenses.
The Longhorns will likely do the same this weekend against the Warhawks. Don't be surprised if the backup defense gets some playing time in the third quarter. The defense needs to be well-rested for the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
1. They are number one in the country
The Texas Longhorns recently became the No. 1 team in the AP Poll for the first time since 2008. That's a pretty big deal, and I'm sure the team is fired up about the ranking. Even though they became the number-one team in the nation after beating UTSA, the Longhorns have shown how good they are in the first three weeks of the season. The Longhorns will probably stampede right through the Warhawks as they did the Michigan Wolverines in week 2.
