OTF's Gerry Hamilton reported on June 21 (premium content) that four-star Lufkin (TX) defensive lineman Zion Williams no longer plans to officially visit Texas football this weekend. Texas is reportedly expected to keep pushing to get Williams on campus for a visit entering the fall.

Texas football official visit canceled for 4-Star DL target Zion Williams

Williams is scheduled to announce on July 4, and it looks like the LSU Tigers are the heavy favorite entering his decision date in a couple of weeks. He announced his top four as the TCU Horned Frogs, Texas A&M Aggies, LSU, and Texas. But LSU looks to be the pick at this moment.

LSU has been the trendy pick in this recruitment since Williams had a successful official visit to Baton Rouge on the weekend of May 31. Williams' recruitment was expected to be a battle on the trail between Texas and LSU. But the Longhorns will have a lot of ground to make up if they even are able to get Williams on campus for visit this fall.

Williams cancelling his Texas official visit this weekend makes it that much more important for Kenny Baker and the Longhorns to land other top priorities DLs in the 2025 class like DJ Sanders, Josiah Sharma, and Myron Charles.

It is also incredibly important for Texas to hang onto four-star Melbourne (FL) Eau Gallie defensive lineman Brandon Brown's commitment in the 2025 class this summer.

Brown, Charles, and Sharma have already taken their official visits to Texas early this summer. Brown was on campus for his Texas official visit last weekend, and it sounded like a resounding success for him and the Longhorns.

Charles and Sharma were at Texas for their official visits to Austin on the first full weekend of June (June 7-9).

Sanders, arguably Texas's top in-state DL priority in the 2025 class this summer, is currently on campus for his final official visit of June this weekend.
