One of the big recruitments for Texas football on the defensive side of the ball in the 2025 class that remains open going into the fall on the trail is for the highly touted four-star San Juan Capistrano (CA) J Serra Catholic linebacker Madden Faraimo.

Texas has done a great job in this recruitment, with co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Johnny Nansen staying in constant communication with Faraimo since he officially visited Austin in late June. Nansen's relationships he built in this recruitment prior to taking the job with Texas's coaching staff early in the offseason helped the Longhorns get their foot in the door with Faraimo.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish were the presumed frontrunner in the race to land Faraimo's commitment at the beginning of summer official visits around the time period of late May and early June. But Texas made up some ground here after Faraimo's successful late June official visit to Austin.

Notre Dame is still considered the leader in this recruitment by many in the industry from the major recruiting services. But Texas and the USC Trojans have gained more traction here in the past few months.

He told 247Sports that he's taking his time to set fall visits to see some of his top schools on gamedays during the season. He's reportedly keeping his primary focus on the field for his senior season at Serra Catholic High School.

"I think it will help to take a step away and focus on my season, make sure I'm doing what I need to do to maintain my position with these schools. I get to see these teams play their season, too. That's going to be important. I haven't scheduled anything yet with any schools but I know I want to go out there to those top four if the schedule works out."

Faraimo is still in consistent communication with each of the three schools in the mix in his recruitment entering the fall on the recruiting trail. He hasn't officially gotten any gameday visit dates for this fall on the books to see any schools yet.

Since he took officials to Notre Dame and Texas during the summer, he's only looking at taking an official visit this fall to see USC for a game weekend at The Coliseum. He's also reportedly looking at taking at least one visit each unofficially this fall for gamedays in South Bend and Austin to see Notre Dame and Texas, respectively, during the season.
