Per a post on his X account on June 16, the highly touted four-star Texas football edge rusher target and Houston (TX) Alief Hastings product Smith Orogbo will decide on July 1. Orogbo included pictures of him with gear on for the Washington Huskies, Oklahoma Sooners, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and Texas in the post on X for his commitment date.

The news of Orogbo setting a decision date on social media comes just after his official visit to Texas from June 14-16 is wrapping up on Sunday afternoon.

Orogbo has already taken official visits to see three of the four finalist schools he'll decide between in early July, including Washington (May 31), Texas Tech (June 7), and Texas (June 14). The only official visit he has remaining this summer is to see Norman and Oklahoma next weekend (June 21).

He's also taken official visits to see the SMU Mustangs and Kansas Jayhawks in the last month.

Texas Tech emerged as the trendy pick in Orogbo's recruitment after he had a successful official visit to Lubbock last weekend. But the early returns on Orogbo's Texas official visit this weekend were very positive.

Oklahoma still has a chance to make a last-minute run to impress Orogbo, since the Sooners get the final official visit next weekend before the Houston native's July 1 decision date.

Texas currently has one edge rusher recruit committed in the 2025 class, Texarkana (TX) Pleasant Grove high-four-star Lance Jackson. Orogbo and Jackson were both on campus at Texas for their official visits in the last couple of days.

The Longhorns also hosted a priority out-of-state edge rusher target for an official visit this weekend, Danville (CA) San Ramon Valley four-star Marco Jones.
