4-Star Texas TE target Nick Townsend sets commitment date
Texas football hosted the highly touted four-star Spring (TX) Dekaney tight end target Nick Townsend for his official visit this weekend. This was the final official visit Townsend had scheduled for the summer between June 21-23 in Austin.

Horns247 reports on June 23 (paid content) that Townsend will announce on July 10, the same day as his teammate and four-star Spring (TX) Dekaney wide receiver Tanook Hines. The announcements for both Hines and Townsend can be seen live on the 247Sports YouTube channel on July 10.
Townsend and Hines included Texas among their top finalist schools for their July 10 commitment announcements.
Hines officially visited Texas a couple of weekends ago, on a surprise trip from June 7-9. Texas joins the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, USC Trojans, Arizona State Sun Devils, and Baylor Bears among Hines' finalists ahead of his July decision.
The decision for Hines is expected to boil down to three schools: Texas, Notre Dame, and USC.
Townsend, meanwhile, will decide between the Alabama Crimson Tide, Texas, Texas A&M Aggies, Arizona State, and USC. He's officially visited all five of his finalist schools, with Texas and Alabama appearing to have the lead over the rest a few weeks before his July commitment date.
"He's pretty cool and is a crazy man. He's cool though and I mess with the vibes and the offense too. He was making it clear that what he was telling me I'm going to get is what I'll actually get if I go there."
Special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks and the Longhorns staff gave Townsend a great experience during his official visit this weekend. Townsend said that he and his family "loved" the Texas visit this weekend, especially the time they spent with Coach Banks in the last couple of days.
Texas currently has one tight end committed in the 2025 class early this summer, Calhoun (GA) four-star Emaree Winston. Banks and the Longhorns want a two tight end class for 2025, and Townsend is their top remaining priority at the position after summer official visits.
