Multiple reports (including OTF's Gerry Hamilton) on July 9 indicate that four-star Texas football wide receiver target Kelshaun Johnson will delay his announcement until next week due to Hurricane Beryl. Hitchcock, TX, was hit hard by the hurricane this week.

Johnson was originally scheduled to announce on July 10, but his home is reportedly still without power after Hurricane Beryl hit the Houston area.

The blue-chip wideout from Hitchcock High School will decide between Texas and the Texas A&M Aggies at some point next week. Johnson has been trending to Texas A&M for the last few weeks, since the conclusion of summer official visits.

But the Longhorns have been pushing hard in this recruitment with last-minute communication from head coach Steve Sarkisian and wide receivers coach Chris Jackson. Texas has given Johnson something to think about to close the gap on the Aggies on the cusp of his commitment.

The Arkansas Razorbacks, USC Trojans, and Texas Tech Red Raiders join Texas and Texas A&M among the top five schools still involved in Johnson's recruitment this summer. But Texas and Texas A&M are realistically the two schools he'll decide between next week.

It sounds like Johnson is still slightly leaning toward Texas A&M over Texas this week. But the Longhorns have certainly made things interesting with the heightened communication in the last few days after Texas missed out on the elite five-star Duncanville (TX) wide receiver Dakorien Moore to the Oregon Ducks last week.

Johnson is one of Texas's top priority wide receiver recruits in-state in the 2025 class this summer. He, Sachse (TX) five-star Kaliq Lockett, and Jacksonville (FL) Mandarin Jaime Ffrench are three of the top names at the wide receiver position on Texas's recruiting radar for 2025 in the month of July.
