Wide receiver recruiting will continue to be a top headline for Texas football on the trail for the 2025 class this summer. Texas is looking to build some momentum on the recruiting trail for the class of 2025 at wideout after whiffing on the elite five-star Duncanville (TX) receiver Dakorien Moore, who committed to the Oregon Ducks last week.

Fellow five-star 2025 wide receiver recruits Kaliq Lockett and Jaime Ffrench continue to be top priorities for head coach Steve Sarkisian and wide receivers coach Chris Jackson post-official visits in July. But Texas also appears to be back in communication with other in-state blue-chip wideouts in the class of 2025, including Hitchcock (TX) four-star Kelshaun Johnson and Lovejoy (TX) four-star Daylan McCutcheon.

Johnson and McCutcheon are both scheduled to announce later this week. The former was originally scheduled to decide on July 8, but Hurricane Beryl that hit Houston this week delayed his announcement by a couple of days until July 10.

Johnson's decision will come down to a close battle on the trail in the next 24 hours or so between Texas and the Texas A&M Aggies.

Entering summer officials in June, Texas looked to have the edge as the pace setter in this recruitment. But Texas A&M swung momentum in its favor after Johnson had a good June official visit to College Station a few weeks ago.

Texas A&M has been the school with the most buzz in this recruitment in the weeks following his visit to College Station since he liked the idea of more immediate playing time with the Aggies compared to what the Longhorns could offer him early in his collegiate career.

However, it appears that Texas's recent reset of the wide receiver recruiting board for 2025 after the Moore decision last week is having a direct impact on their communication with Johnson this week. Per Horns247 (paid content), Sarkisian and Jackson have picked up their pursuit last-minute of Johnson on the recruiting trail in the last few days.

While Texas A&M reportedly still looks to be the frontrunner roughly 24 hours ahead of Johnson's July 10 decision date, Texas is bound to make things interesting heading into Wednesday.

This recruitment could have some big shifts in the last 24 hours before Johnson's announcement. We will continue to follow for any updates in this recruitment as they're reported leading up to the Wednesday commitment for the blue-chip wideout recruit from the Houston area.
