After the highly touted four-star Lufkin (TX) defensive lineman Zion Williams canceled his Texas official visit last weekend, the recruitment for Bellville (TX) four-star defensive tackle DJ Sanders became paramount for Kenny Baker.

Williams is likely headed for an LSU commitment when he announces on July 4. LSU was the trendy pick for Williams after a successful official visit to Baton Rouge from the Tigers' perspective in late May and early June.

Texas is already fighting to hang onto one defensive line commit in the 2025 class, Eau Gallie (FL) four-star Brandon Brown, after he took a few other official visits to SEC schools early this summer. Baker and the Longhorns need to get both Sanders and Brown along with at least a couple of other quality defensive linemen to sign in the 2025 class this December.

The good news with Sanders' recruitment is that he had a fantastic official visit to Texas over the weekend. Sanders plays things close to the chest with status updates in his recruitment, especially at this critical point at the end of summer visits.

But word on the street is that Texas took the lead in the race to land a commitment from Sanders over the Texas A&M Aggies and Michigan Wolverines. Sanders likes the relationship he's built with Baker over the last few months, and Sarkisian has personally put a lot of effort in this recruitment for the No. 1 ranked DL in Texas in the 2025 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking.
