Elite 2026 five-star Carrollton (GA) safety Zelus Hicks made his first return trip to see Texas football for the Elite Camp this weekend since he made the visit for the first big Junior Day of the offseason in late January.

Texas football makes a big move with 5-Star 2026 S Zelus Hicks this weekend

Hicks was one of the highest-rated visiting recruits from the 2026 class on campus for the Texas Elite Camp on June 1. Safeties coach Blake Gideon and head coach Steve Sarkisian have really made a big push in this recruitment for the elite safety recruit from Georgia since the spring evaluation period this offseason.

It sounds like Hicks' experience at the Texas Elite Camp this weekend was a resounding success. He told Horns247 that he had a "great experience at the camp" and that he and his family "really like Texas".

Texas's coaches made a big impression on Hicks during his trip to Austin for the Elite Camp. He likes how Gideon coaches the safeties and the personalized attention he got from Sarkisian and staff during his visit this weekend.

Hicks reportedly spent time with Gideon getting personalized coaching during his workout for the Elite Camp. He also met with Sarkisian to discuss his recruitment and how he could fit at Texas. Sarkisian told him that Hicks is a good fit for the program regarding his character and personality, along with his skill set.

Hicks said that Gideon taught him "some new techniques" and he got to review film of his game and the Texas defense with the Longhorns coaches.

The successful visit experience this weekend for the Texas Elite Camp really helped the Longhorns' standing in this recruitment for Hicks. He said that Texas is "probably in my top five right now" after the Elite Camp visit.

It's also noteworthy that Hicks' family likes the school and the city of Austin. His family is reportedly wanting to move to Austin in the near future.

Hicks hasn't dropped an official top list of schools recently. But it sounds like Texas is trending positively in this recruitment entering the rest of Hicks' summer visits. The next trips up for Hicks this month are to see the Tennessee Volunteers (June 7) and Ohio State Buckeyes (June 14).

He's also visited the Georgia Bulldogs, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, and Auburn Tigers multiple times since the start of the 2024 offseason.
