Per On3's Hayes Fawcett, the elite five-star Texas football priority target and Galveston (TX) Ball athlete/safety Jonah Williams will announce on Aug. 24.

Williams will decide between five finalist schools when he announces exactly one month from today, including the LSU Tigers, Oregon Ducks, Texas A&M Aggies, USC Trojans, and Texas.

The decision from Williams to set a late-August decision date comes one day before he's scheduled to arrive on campus for an unofficial visit to Texas for the late July pool party/BBQ bash. Texas gets to swing away in this recruitment after Williams didn't take an official visit to Austin this summer.

Williams has taken official visits to his other four finalist schools: LSU, Oregon, Texas A&M, and USC.

While Texas has been in consistent communication with Williams since they offered him well over one year ago, the hire of new head baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle has helped their efforts in this recruitment. Williams, a two sport athlete playing football and baseball at Ball High School, is deciding whether to play pro football or baseball in his long-term future.

Texas has a big chance to close the gap of momentum on the presumed leaders in this recruitment, namely Oregon and LSU, from earlier this summer on the trail.

Williams is also scheduled to take an unofficial visit to Baton Rouge this upcoming weekend after his trip to Texas to see the Tigers during the Bayou Splash. That means LSU and head coach Brian Kelly could get the final visit from Williams before he announces in late August.

Williams is the No. 10 ranked prospect nationally in the 2025 class in the On3 Industry Ranking, No. 1 safety, and No. 3 from Texas.
