Texas football letting off the gas with 4-Star S Faheem Delane?

We'll get a good idea of who the Longhorns are prioritizing on the recruiting trail as these visits conclude over the next few weeks, especially with the important summer official visit season looming for the 2025 class in June.

A position group that will really come into focus this spring for the Longhorns in the 2025 class is defensive back. Texas hosted a key DB target in the 2025 class last weekend, four-star Pearland (TX) Shadown Creek cornerback Cobey Sellers for a visit during spring practice.

Another blue-chip defensive back target that the Longhorns were scheduled to host for an unofficial visit this spring was the elite high-four-star Olney (MD) Good Counsel safety Faheem Delane. It appears the Longhorns have started to prioritize a handful of other safety targets in the 2025 class this spring.

On Texas Football's Gerry Hamilton reported on April 2 that Delane's unofficial trip he had scheduled to Texas on April 13 is canceled. Hamilton also reported on April 2 that fellow blue-chip DB offer, IMG Academy three-star Major Preston, has canceled a spring visit to Texas.

Texas's safety big board for the 2025 class coming into focus before summer visits

Texas's staff is making it clear that there are a couple of safety recruits they're prioritizing this spring in the 2025 class on their big board. Elite five-star Galveston (TX) Ball athlete/safety Jonah Williams and Missouri City (TX) Hightower defensive back Kade Phillips are scheduled to be on campus at Texas this weekend (April 6).

Williams was considered an Oklahoma lean entering the spring, with schools like Texas, Ohio State, LSU, and Oregon still in the mix. But Texas has started to push more in this recruitment for Williams with a critical visit upcoming in a few days.

Phillips' relationships with the Texas coaches has blossomed in the last few months. He'll be on campus many times this offseason, including for the big visit weekend coming up in a few days on April 6. That will be Phillips' first return visit to Texas since the first big Junior Day of the offseason on Jan. 20.

Texas A&M and Baylor are also still in the mix for Phillips. He was on campus in College Station last weekend and will be in Waco for an official visit to Baylor later this month.
