Jonah Williams, S/ATH

Commitment date: Aug. 24

Another recruitment that I would come close to probably classifying as a "must-win" deal for the Longhorns is for five-star Galveston (TX) Ball athlete/safety Jonah Williams. Texas is fighting the LSU Tigers, Oregon Ducks, LSU, and USC in the race to land Williams' commitment when he announces on Aug. 24.

But this decision is expected to come down to Texas, Texas A&M, and LSU since Williams is probably going to wind up staying closer to home, which disadvantages the west coast schools like USC and Oregon in this upcoming decision on Saturday.

Williams has been trending more toward Texas in the last few weeks since late July visits before the dead period a few weeks ago. But there have been some big swings in momentum in this recruitment since the start of this offseason. It's important to note that neither Texas nor Texas A&M has a true safety commitment in the 2025 class.

Aidan Anding, CB

Commitment date: Aug. 24

The other key defensive back decision upcoming for the Longhorns in the 2025 class next weekend is for the underrated three-star Ruston (LA) cornerback Aidan Anding. LSU appears to be the favorite entering Anding's Aug. 24 decision date, with Texas and the Arkansas Razorbacks still trying to make a big last-minute move in this recruitment in the next few days this week.

Texas and Arkansas were the two leaders in the race to land Anding's commitment during June official visits. But a recent offer from LSU in late June really swung this recruitment in the Tigers' favor since early July.

OTF's Gerry Hamilton reports (premium content) that there is a "big push around Ruston High" for Anding with LSU. Given what happened last weekend with the Longhorns losing four-star defensive back commit Kade Phillips to LSU, this would be a major recruiting loss in the secondary class for Texas for 2025 if Anding winds up pledging to LSU this coming Saturday.
