Grading every portal addition for Texas football this spring
Jermayne Lole, DL
After it missed on priority TCU transfer defensive tackle Damonic Williams, Texas plucked away another grad transfer from the rival Oklahoma Sooners this spring. Texas flipped former Louisville Cardinals and Arizona State Sun Devils senior transfer defensive tackle Jermayne Lole from Oklahoma to add more key depth and proven experience to the interior defensive line rotation.
Lole became the third transfer defensive tackle that new DL coach Kenny Baker, Sarkisian, and the Longhorns were able to add since the winter portal window this offseason.
All three transfer defensive tackles the Longhorns picked up this offseason, including Norton and fellow former Arizona grad transfer Tia Savea, all have at least four years of playing experience for P5 defensive lines.
Lole played three seasons at Arizona State before injuries started to take a toll on his on-field production. He was an extremely productive defensive tackle at Arizona State before injuries limited his live-game snaps a few years into his career.
Lole registered double-digit sacks, 20 tackles for loss, 10 batted balls, and multiple fumbles forced and recovered in his roughly 2.5 years playing for the Sun Devils.
Last season at Louisville, Lole showed glimpses of his productive pre-injury form from early in his career at Arizona State. He led all Louisville defensive tackles in defensive snaps in 2023, while ranking in the top three in total defense grade and run defense.
The addition of Lole not only works for Texas by subtracting depth from a rival in the Sooners, but it also gives the Longhorns another proven guy who can give them quality snaps while ensuring the depth of the three-techs this upcoming season.
