No. 16 Texas baseball opens up the 2024 regular season at home at the Disch this weekend in a three-game series against the San Diego Toreros. Texas's season opener is played on the evening of Feb. 16.

Head coach David Pierce and the Longhorns have high expectations entering the 2024 season. Texas was projected by D1Baseball to be a regional host as the 16-seed this postseason.

The Longhorns were also picked to finish second in the Big 12 media preseason poll, only behind the No. 5 TCU Horned Frogs.

Texas's ace and the preseason Big 12 Pitcher of the Year Lebarron Johnson Jr. gets the call on the mound in the season opener on Feb. 16 against San Diego.

The 6-foot-4 redshirt junior right-hander Johnson was a Second-Team All-American for the Longhorns in 2023. Last season, he registered an 8-4 record with a 2.91 earned run average over 13 starts and 20 total appearances on the mound.

Not only is Johnson the best arm in the Longhorns' rotation this season, but he is also looking to boost his stock for the 2024 MLB Draft. Johnson was the No. 100 ranked prospect for the 2024 MLB Draft by Prep Baseball Report a couple of months ago.

In Game 2 of the Texas-San Diego series this weekend, the towering 6-foot-8 senior right-hander Charlie Hurley will get the start. The Game 3 starter is still yet to be announced for the Longhorns.

Betting odds for Texas baseball vs. San Diego

Texas is favored in the moneyline (-295) for the pregame betting odds in the season opener vs. San Diego (+220) on Feb. 16, per FanDuel.

FanDuel also gives the Longhorns pretty optmistic odds to make their record 39th College World Series in program history. Texas is given the 11th best odds by FanDuel to make the College World Series in 2024.
