This is the final tune-up game for Pierce and the Longhorns before the highly-anticipated Big 12 weekend series on the road in Manhattan in a few days against the No. 23 Kansas State Wildcats.

Freshman right-hander Cole Selvig gets his first start of his collegiate career against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Selvig has appeared in three games this season, allowing four earned runs and seven hits over four innings of work on the mound.
Selvig's last appearance was a one-inning stint out of the bullpen in a win over the Washington Huskies a couple of weekends ago.
Facing Selvig for the Islanders is the big 6-foot-4 right-handed junior Jack Hill. The JUCO transfer has started two games and made 10 appearances this season.
Pierce got three good outings on the mound from his starting rotation against Baylor last weekend. Texas's starters didn't allow any more than two earned runs in their three starts against the Bears.
