Texas is the second ranked opponent the Islanders have faced this season. The first was the No. 7 Houston Cougars, which resulted in a 82-50 loss on the road on Nov. 11. Houston was one of two Big 12 teams Texas A&M-Corpus Christi faced this season.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi played the Texas Tech Red Raiders on the road in Lubbock pretty close in a few weeks ago, but came up short by nine points on a rough shooting night for Tech.
The Islanders might have the deepest rotation in college hoops regarding how many players head coach Jim Shaw plays each game. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is the only Division 1 school in college hoops that has 15 players who are averaging double-digit minutes per game.
But the core part of the rotation has four or five players averaging over a half dozen points per game and at least a couple of rebounds.
Texas should be able to control this game beginning to end with its advantage regarding length in the frontcourt and playmaking from the backcourt. With Disu back in the fold, this duo with redshirt junior center Kadin Shedrick can control the tone in the paint.
The guard duo of senior Max Abmas and junior Tyrese Hunter also played well in the win over LSU last weekend. Another big outing from these two starting Texas guards would inspire more confidence that they're finding their groove at the right time heading into Big 12 play.
