When former Texas A&M head coach Jim Schlossnagle was named the Texas Longhorns’ newest leader, the college baseball scene was lit ablaze.

Since becoming the Horns’ latest head coach, Schlossnagle has brought over former assistants from Aggieland, including Michael Earley, Max Weiner, and Nolan Cain.

Texas parted ways with former head coach David Pierce following a highly disappointing postseason run, including losses to Texas A&M in the College Station Regional.

It was to be expected that coaching changes were brewing after Texas’ 2024 season and once it was announced that Pierce was out and Schlossnagle was named as his replacement, it could only be assumed that members of his staff were to follow.

Most recently, the Longhorns’ coordinator, hitting, and pitching development assistant coach Chris Gordon announced that his time with the Longhorns had come to an end.

Gordon joined the Horns in 2023 and helped multiple Texas pitchers see breakout seasons in 2024.

His pitchers Gage Boehm was named First Team All-Big 12, Andre Duplantier II returned to full force with 29 appearances on the mound, and Max Grubbs and Ace Whitehead were both named Honorable Mention All-Big 12.

Gordon was credited with much of the development seen by Texas pitchers this season despite the bullpen having a few shortcomings throughout the year.

Pierce, who announced that he would take over pitching decisions part way through the season, overrode a lot of the work Gordon had pushed forward, but the pitching coordinator still earned his stamp of approval from players and fans.

As chips continue to fall, Longhorns can only assume that more coaching changes are to come.
