The second best thing to a Texas Longhorns’ national title is a Texas A&M Aggies loss in a National Championship game.

The No. 1 Tennessee Volunteers defeated the No. 3 Aggies in a thriller of a Game 3 in the Men’s College World Series on Monday night.

The downfall of the Aggies was exactly what Texas fans needed to turn their sour moods around – especially after the Horns were eliminated by Texas A&M in the College Station Regional and head coach David Pierce parted ways with the program.

Not to mention, rumors were racing around the Aggies’ program as Texas AD Chris Del Conte flew to Omaha to reportedly meet with Texas A&M head coach Jim Schlossnagle.

All of that benign said, Longhorns fans were relentless on social media following the Aggies’ loss to the Vols.

Texas is heading to the SEC, which is home base for both Tennessee and Texas A&M, which means the Horns will face both the Vols and Aggies on a semi-regular basis.

Del Conte and Schlossnagle both have roots in Texas sports, having each had stints with the TCU athletic department.

Schlossnagle was named as Texas A&M’s head coach in 2022 after an 18-year tenure with the TCU Horned Frogs.

Texas A&M has never won a baseball national title and it was a program first for the Volunteers,

While it has been far too long since the Longhorns last won a National Championship (in any sport), Texas fans can always relish the Aggies blowing it in a title game.

Pierce was the Horns’ head coach for seven years and was a two-time Big 12 Coach of the Year. His failure to lead Texas to its seventh national title called for the end of his reign over the program.
