Last-minute intel for Texas transfer target Damonic Williams
A decision is expected on May 2 from priority Texas football defensive tackle transfer target Damonic Williams. The former TCU Horned Frogs All-Big 12 Honorable Mention and rising junior defensive lineman is deciding between the Oklahoma Sooners, Mizzou Tigers, LSU Tigers, and Texas with the expected announcement later today.
Texas football among the 4 schools in contention on decision day for transfer DL target Damonic Williams
At this point of Williams' portal recruitment, it sounds like it's anyone's best guess regarding where he ends up late this spring. The reporting on Williams' decision in the last couple of days has been all over the place.
Williams has officially visited the four aforementioned schools he's deciding between on May 2.
The 6-foot-2 and 325-pound defensive tackle from California took a multi-day official visit to Texas last week. The Texas visit went well from what we heard following the conclusion of Williams' trip to Austin on April 25.
Most recently, Williams visited Baton Rouge to see head coach Brian Kelly and LSU. He took a multi-day trip to Baton Rouge early this week, making LSU the final visit before his announcement this week.
Throughout most of this portal recruitment, Oklahoma, Texas, and LSU have been the three schools with the most buzz to land Williams. Oklahoma seemed to have the momentum early in the portal process for Williams.
But it looked like the decision might come down to Texas and LSU with the reporting on this recruitment in the last week or so.
And in the last couple of days, leading up to Williams decision date, it sounds like this portal recruitment has come back to center with Oklahoma, Texas, and LSU all involved. It also sounds like Mizzou is making a big push on the NIL front to get Williams to Columbia.
I also won't discount that Mizzou made a positive impression on Williams during his trip to Columbia roughly one week ago.
The latest intel from this portal recruitment is that Texas and Oklahoma both had in-depth discussions with Williams on the night of May 1. Since there is no specific time set for Williams' expected announcement on May 2, On Texas Football's Gerry Hamilton put it well by saying that "the ball is in Williams' court" today.
Inside Texas reported on the morning of May 2 (paid content) that all four schools still have a shot at landing Williams when he announces later today. Last-minute swings in this portal recruitment are still a large possibility, based on what I've gathered from the latest reporting on decision day for Williams.
