In his Monday press conference on Sep. 16, Texas football head coach Steve Sarkisian updated the injury status for redshirt junior starting quarterback Quinn Ewers. Sarkisian said that Ewers "is questionable vs. ULM this week".

The injury that Ewers suffered last weekend in the first half against the UTSA Roadrunners was specifically described by Sarkisian as an "oblique strain" that happened on a "non-contact play".

Ewers suffered the aforementioned abdominal strain in the first half of No. 2 Texas's win over UTSA at home at DKR in Austin by a score of 56-7. Redshirt freshman quarterback Arch Manning took over the quarterback duties on offense for the Longhorns, where he totaled five touchdowns and threw for over 200 yards in the 49-point dismantling of UTSA on Saturday night.

Before he left the game due to the abdominal injury, Ewers threw for 185 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception while completing 14-of-16 pass attempts.

Sarkisian also updated Ewers' injury status for the upcoming weekend in the Week 4 home matchup at DKR against the UL-Monroe Warhawks and beyond for the start of SEC play. He said Ewers will be listed as "questionable" for this weekend against ULM, and that will likely be the case when the first injury report of the season for the Longhorns comes out for the SEC opener next Wednesday.

"When you guys get your injury report next Wednesday, he would be listed as questionable. So, we're going to monitor him daily and see what this looks like, but he would be questionable for Saturday on the report for next week."

The SEC is requiring each school to release a weekly injury report for conference play games this fall. Texas will have to release its first injury report of the season for its inaugural game in SEC play for Sep. 28 when the Longhorns host the Mississippi State Bulldogs at DKR.

Sarkisian and the Longhorns do not have to release an injury report for the final non-conference game of the regular season on Sep. 21 against ULM.

So far this season, Ewers has completed over 73 percent of his pass attempts for 691 passing yards, eight passing touchdowns, and two interceptions.

After coming on in relief of Ewers in the win over UTSA last weekend, Manning has completed nearly 70 percent of his pass attempts for 348 passing yards, five passing touchdowns, no interceptions, and 60 rushing yards with two rushing scores.
