Joseph Mbatchou, DL (Florida commit)

Texas's defensive staff has made the recruitment of the fast-developing three-star Loganville (GA) Grayson defensive lineman and Florida Gators commit Joseph Mbatchou a top priority on the trail this fall for the 2025 class.

We posted on the site earlier this week that Texas is "going all in" with their efforts on the recruiting trail to flip Mbatchou's commitment from the Gators before signing day in a few months. Baker and the Longhorns' staff really like the potential that the uber-athletic 6-foot-5 and 285-pound defensive tackle from Georgia brings since he's only in his first full year of playing high school football at Grayson High School this fall.

Mbatchou is planning to visit Texas in a couple of weeks for the Louisiana-Monroe game at DKR on Sep. 21. That will be his first unofficial visit to Texas since the Longhorns sent him a scholarship offer last month.

Texas has a couple of notable connections worth mentioning that can help them in this recruitment for Mbatchou.

Four-star Texas offensive tackle commit Nick Brooks is Mbatchou's teammate at Grayson. While it doesn't sound like Brooks and Mbatchou will be taking gameday visits to Texas on the same weekend for the ULM game in late September, it does help that the Longhorns have the teammate connection between two linemen on opposite sides of the ball.

Baker also reportedly has a connection on Grayson's coaching staff, which helped establish consistent communication between Mbatchou and Texas's DL coach late this summer.
